SRS is a new studio project from the collective minds of Chris Doheny and Shaun Gardener.
After
passing each other for many years on the local Melbourne music circuit Chris
Doheny and Shaun Gardener have finally got around to doing some gigs and writing
together.
Both of
them singer, guitarist, producer, songwriters there was no shortage of ideas
and ability when they got in to the studio together…
Doheny Recounts
the birth of SRS. “Late
last year I was stuck when my usual guitarist was ill so I called up Shaun to
fill in on guitar for a show with my band Australian Made at a festival in Tom
Price Western Australia. We spent about 6 hours in a small outback bar in WA drinking
all their scotch and chatting while waiting for a flight on the way back to
Melbourne and realised how much we had in common. The project name (Slow
Release Syndrome) reflects how we intend to go about it, which is to write and
release tunes at our own pace and as time permits!”
Gardener
explains. “I used to watch Chris Doheny perform with
his band Geisha some years ago and be in awe of his musicianship and vocal
prowess, so it's a great thrill for me to finally get to embark on this musical
journey with him.
I really hope you have as much fun listening to the
songs as we had in the creative process…..stay tuned for more.”
Chris Doheny – gained
national attention when he emerged with the band Geisha, which scored a
worldwide deal with EMI Music and scored eight Top 10 singles in Australia
between 1985 and 1987. One of these, “Kabuki” reached Number One. (Twenty years later Geisha were discovered in
America, and Doheny toured there in 2007). He wrote songs for Daryl
Braithwaite, James Blundell, Lee Kernaghan, Stevie Wright as well as US band
Berlin’s singer Terri Nunn, Roxette and Andrew Ridgeley of Wham! fame. He is
the voice of “More Than A Game”, theme song of Nine Network’s AFL The Footy Show, fronted glam-pop band All The Young Dudes, hard rock outfit Dragonfly and, helped coordinate
the soundtrack for Australian movie The
Castle, and has been releasing solo recordings and new Geisha tracks on his label Diamond Dog Records.
