Chris Doheny anounces the release date for his solo album titled 'Doheny'

Hi Twitter followers and FB friends

After considering it very carefully the last few days, and having my two studio projects singles out.
‘Slow Release Syndrome’ with the single ‘A Lesson Or Three’ and as of today ‘Demolition Crew’ have released a new single ‘I love Everybody’.
Rather than flood the market with all my music releases at once I will wait and release my solo album ‘DOHENY’ on Christmas day 2014!
To celebrate the occasion I will give free copies away on Christmas morning to the first 10 people who donate toys to the Children’s hospitals in their respective areas.
God bless and I look forward to a Merry Christmas

Cheers

SLOW RELEASE SYNDROME release debut single "A Lesson Or Three"

SRS is a new studio project from the collective minds of Chris Doheny and Shaun Gardener.

After passing each other for many years on the local Melbourne music circuit Chris Doheny and Shaun Gardener have finally got around to doing some gigs and writing together.
Both of them singer, guitarist, producer, songwriters there was no shortage of ideas and ability when they got in to the studio together…

Doheny Recounts the birth of SRS.  “Late last year I was stuck when my usual guitarist was ill so I called up Shaun to fill in on guitar for a show with my band Australian Made at a festival in Tom Price Western Australia. We spent about 6 hours in a small outback bar in WA drinking all their scotch and chatting while waiting for a flight on the way back to Melbourne and realised how much we had in common. The project name (Slow Release Syndrome) reflects how we intend to go about it, which is to write and release tunes at our own pace and as time permits!”

Gardener explains. “I used to watch Chris Doheny perform with his band Geisha some years ago and be in awe of his musicianship and vocal prowess, so it's a great thrill for me to finally get to embark on this musical journey with him.
I really hope you have as much fun listening to the songs as we had in the creative process…..stay tuned for more.”

Chris Doheny – gained national attention when he emerged with the band Geisha, which scored a worldwide deal with EMI Music and scored eight Top 10 singles in Australia between 1985 and 1987. One of these, “Kabuki” reached Number One.  (Twenty years later Geisha were discovered in America, and Doheny toured there in 2007). He wrote songs for Daryl Braithwaite, James Blundell, Lee Kernaghan, Stevie Wright as well as US band Berlin’s singer Terri Nunn, Roxette and Andrew Ridgeley of Wham! fame. He is the voice of “More Than A Game”, theme song of Nine Network’s AFL The Footy Show, fronted glam-pop band All The Young Dudes, hard rock outfit Dragonfly and, helped coordinate the soundtrack for Australian movie The Castle, and has been releasing solo recordings and new Geisha tracks on his label Diamond Dog Records.

Shaun Gardener - Best known as lead singer and guitarist for Melbourne based band 21-20 and as the front-man for Channel 7's house band on 'Live and Kicking' from 1999.
Shaun made many appearances on Channel 10's 'Good Morning Australia'. A prolific writer, he has produced numerous CDs, including several recent solo CDs, displaying his ability to traverse many and varied musical genres. He studied classical guitar with noted classical guitarist and teacher Sebastian Jorgenson at the Montsalvat Artists’ Colony.

The first single to be released by SRS is titled “A Lesson Or Three” which is also the first track the pair wrote together earlier this year.

It will be released digitally worldwide on Halloween Friday 31st October 2014 and will be available thru iTunes and all digital stores.

Chris Doheny releases 21st anniversary edition of his signature song More Than a Game!!

“In 1994 I released my first solo single, ‘More Than A Game’. It began as the theme to Channel Nine's acclaimed AFL Footy Show which began that same year.

It remains arguably the longest running unchanged theme for an Australian television show.

TV Producer Harvey Silver had been coming to my shows (when I was front man for Geisha) for years and approached me one night about getting involved in the making of a theme for the pilot of a new sports show for the Nine Network which was to be called The Footy Show.

Harvey introduced me to the main songwriter Darren Sanicki and award winning producer/writer Josh Abrahams and together we recorded what is now known as More Than A Game.

The sessions were quite intense, as we all wanted to convey the feeling that the three of us, Harvey, Darren and myself felt about not only AFL football, but sport in general. I remember quite clearly that when the time came for me to do the main vocal; we recorded it at Sing Sing Studios in Richmond.

I had my 2 year old daughter wearing her Richmond footy jumper for the day and she quietly sat behind me in the vocal booth playing with her toy footy not making a sound while I sang the vocal. That gave me the impetus to really put my heart into the main take having her there with me. Amazing!!

The show went to air in 1994 and the ratings went through the roof!

My record label Fable/EMI insisted that we release it as a Chris Doheny single and I’m happy to say that it was a top 20 single. I constantly get asked to sing it at my shows and here we are 21 years later talking about its success!

To celebrate 21 years since the release of More Than A Game, I have recorded a special version with mostly acoustic instruments all played by myself such as 6 and 12 string guitars, violins, violas, Hammond B4 organ and piano and a footy (see if you can hear itJ)

This version is much more atmospheric and moody to reflect the 21 years that have passed while it’s been on in many of Australia’s lounge rooms

I thought it appropriate to release it at Footy Finals time and I hope you enjoy this version 21 years after and as much as my original version.

Cheers

Chris Doheny’s Gallipoli Commemorates Anzac Day

Popular Melbourne singer, songwriter, performer Chris Doheny proudly announces the release of his tribute recording Gallipoli to commemorate Anzac Day. All proceeds from the sales of the recording will be donated to the Returned & Services League of Australia.

“I’d been doing regular writing sessions with a long time muso friend named Ronny Addlem, when one afternoon in 2012 we decided to write a song about Gallipoli.

What we came up with was a chorus that interestingly includes the words “Raise your glasses high” which Sir General Cosgrove recently used to promote Anzac Day.

Later after we had the chorus we decided the verses should tell a ‘bigger picture’ story from a generational viewpoint from the Grandfather down to the Grandson, and the many wars they had served in.

Ronny's own father and grandfather had served in the 1st and 2nd great wars. My dad had served in the Australian Navy aboard the HMAS Adelaide and Shropshire and my Mum’s father had served in the army in New Guinea. We used stories we had heard from our childhood and did a lot of research to ensure not to offend any old diggers by getting any thing wrong!”- Chris Doheny.

Chris Doheny is best known as the front man of successful 80’s Melbourne band Geisha; and more recently as the voice behind the AFL Footy Show theme, More Than A Game

The official release date for Gallipoli is 25th April 2014 and will be available on iTunes

It will be available via DMDS from 22nd April 2014
